Issue 6, 30th May 2005 Theme: Attitude

Welcome to this issue of the Up-Mobile Ezine™, designed to bring you “Nigerian Inspiration for the Nigerian Situation!”™

===========================================================
Announcements:

1. If you enjoy this issue of The Up-Mobile Ezine, why not subscribe for your own fortnightly copy? Fill in the subscription box to the right of the page and we will acknowledge your subscription. You can then request free coaching with your goals, and a free booklet titled: Four Steps to Success – Your easy-to-follow guide to getting what you want and keeping it, by Oma Edoja.

2. Do you have goals you have not achieved? Would you like some unbiased, independent help identifying what you really want (often not what you think), identifying what hinders you from achieving it (again, often not what you think), identifying steps to help you achieve what you really want, and some inspiration to keep you going? Then take our new survey (See the What’s New? Section) and get a free email coaching session.

===========================================================

From the Publisher

Warmest greetings from the Up-Mobile team! We continue in this issue with the theme: Attitude. We have received positive feedback on the new format of our articles. A million thanks to those of you who sent in encouragement, contributions and constructive criticism!

Several subscription and coaching requests have come in from outside Nigeria. The feedback from abroad is surprisingly positive. We are glad that people beyond our shores are being helped by this ezine. We are happy to be a blessing to so wide and varied an audience. Please keep spreading the word!

Quite a few copies of Four Steps to Success have been sent out. Remember, we are only giving out 100 copies. Please do not forget to give us feedback when you have read the booklet; you can see the feedback questions at the end. We would really appreciate this as it will help us package the material as part of an e-book for you, later this year. Also remember, you can avail yourself of free coaching on completing the book. A coach could help you clarify what you really want in life. Sometimes we think we want something, but deep down inside we really do not. For this underlying reason, such goals continue to elude us. A coach can help you find out what you really want, map out strategies to get it, and then keep it. So, order your copy of the booklet today, and then consider coaching.

This issue carries an article on your attitude towards money, and how this affects your finances. We find that many Nigerians have an unwholesome money attitude, and a wrong impression of how to build wealth. While we cannot correct this with one article, we do hope that we can help foster a new perspective. Please tell us what you think of our articles. It will help us give you information you can use. And it is all for free! We also feature tips for getting more money. Simple though these may seem, please do not despise them. They are tried and tested tips. Remember, wisdom is often hidden in simplicity.
Be sure to read the What’s New? section for some news.

Enjoy this 6th issue, and please keep the feedback coming. You are the reason for this ezine, and always will be.

Do all you dare in the next two weeks!

Serving with pleasure,

Oma Edoja,

Motivational Article (1)

Your Attitude and your Money by Oma Edoja

With regard to money, what do you think and expect?

-To never have enough?
-To have to borrow?
-That it will never come to you?
-That you are not capable of earning enough?
-You have to do criminal things to be rich?
-Godly people cannot have money?
-There is none in this country; you have to leave for “greener pastures?”

Brian Tracy says, “When you confidently expect good things to happen, good things usually happen to you. If you expect negative things to happen to you, you are usually not disappointed.” Your situations mirror back to you what you expect. If your expectations and attitude toward money are negative, you will have an unpleasant money situation. The opposite is also the case.

Quick Tips and Ideas

Three Tips for Getting More Money by Oma Edoja

• Practice good stewardship.
You are not the owner of the resources in your care. You met them here on the earth, and you will leave them behind. You are merely a steward of God’s wealth. A steward is one who manages another’s property on his behalf. A good steward increases wealth and multiplies his resources on behalf of the owner. He is skilled and businesslike in handling money. Whether great or small, a good steward will handle money well, and multiply it. A bad steward on the other hand, expends whatever money comes his way, often having nothing left. He frequently goes into debt, further decreasing his net worth. What kind of steward have you been? Identify ways that you can be a better steward of what you have. Get started with good stewardship today. Till you learn to manage the resources you have, an increased income will do you no good; you will only fritter it away. This is why some people never progress financially. Money only goes where it is well managed.

Where Does Your Money Go? By Oma Edoja

Did you ever hear the nursery rhyme where Mary, Quite Contrary was asked, “How does your garden grow?” Well if she were around today her accountant would probably be asking her, “Where does your money go?”

Perhaps you ask yourself the same question, month after month.
And if you are like most people, you have no definite answer. You are not alone; there is a world-wide club of others just like you, whose salaries are “too short” and whose months are “too long”! (I almost said, “Welcome to the club!”)

What’s New?

We have a “trial chat room” up and running! We say, “Trial” because we are still experimenting with it. Chat schedules and other technicalities will be announced later on, so keep an eye on this section! You may pop in and see if anyone is in the room, but please be orderly or we will have to ban you from future entry. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

We have some survey questions for you to answer, to help you achieve more. If you would like to take part in the survey, please copy and paste the questions to your email program, fill in your answers and send them to proact04@yahoo.co.uk. As a token of our appreciation, you will receive a free email coaching session designed to help you:

1. Identify what you really want; often this is not what you think.
2. Identify what hinders you from achieving it; again, this is often not what you think.
3. Identify steps to help you achieve what you really want (anything is possible, if you will do what it takes).
4. Inspire and motivate you to get on track.

N.B. A coach does not tell you what to do, or make you do something you do not want to. Rather a coach helps you find your own solution and implement it. Would that not be wonderful? At last, an independent, unbiased person to hold your hand and help you get what you want! And when you finally achieve your goal you will feel so accomplished that you will want to take on more!
Take the survey now, send in your answers and begin your free email coaching session.

Click here to take the survey.

The information you supply will be held in strict confidence. Unless you specify to the contrary, we will not contact you again, so do not fear a barrage of mails or spamming. We are strictly anti-spam. Your survey answers will be used to tailor this ezine’s content to better meet your needs, and to develop products you can benefit from. If we know what you need we can give it to you!

Self-esteem: Who do you think you are? By Oma Edoja

Are you the kind of person who dwells on your strengths, or the kind obsessed by your weaknesses? It’s been said that you become what you think about most of the time. Continually pondering your strengths therefore makes you become stronger, enhancing self-esteem. Conversely, thinking constantly on your weaknesses makes you become weaker, draining whatever self-esteem you have.

Incidentally, self-esteem is all about who you think you are. Notice the word “think.” Quite often it has nothing to do with reality. What we think of ourselves could be very far from the truth. The world is full of beautiful women who think they are ugly, thin ones thinking they are fat, men who have it all but think they need more…. I believe you could add to this list of ironies!

Quick Tips and Ideas

Self-esteem Boosters: 5 action points

Make a list of all your accomplishments in life so far. Whatever you consider an accomplishment qualifies – your education, successful parenting, promotions, and skills you have acquired, overcoming adversity, a happy marriage, weight loss etc. Include everything; leave nothing out. Do you know people who do not have any of the successes you have listed? Someone who didn’t finish high school like you did, isn’t as qualified on the job as you are, or cannot sing like you do? Most likely you do. You have achieved something that someone else hasn’t. And you should give yourself credit for that!

Issue 4 , 30th April 2005, Theme: Opportunity

Welcome to this issue of the Up-Mobile Ezine™, designed to bring you “Nigerian Inspiration for the Nigerian Situation!”™

===========================================================

From the Publisher

Happy Workers’ Day!

Whether you are self-employed or working for someone else you are blessed to be able to contribute to society. It is more blessed to give than to receive; incidentally, the more you give to our beloved country, the more you get from it. Give nothing, get nothing. It’s that simple!

Have you ever noticed that it’s those who perpetually grumble and complain about our beloved Naija that are always down and out? Incidentally, I have met several wealthy men and women who claim that this same Naija is the best place to be, the same country where others complain! These wealthy Nigerians are usually business people who render services, also providing employment for others. In the process of growing their businesses they constantly add value to their products and services, giving more to their communities, getting wealthier in return. Now you might take the cynical position that they give because they have, but I tell you, it’s the other way round; they have because they give. It’s the law of sowing and reaping.

We’re all familiar with the saying, “If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always got,” and “To get something different you must do something different.” Have you been hard up lately/habitually? I suggest you quit complaining or brooding over your misfortune and begin taking stock of all your assets – your talents, skills, experiences, knowledge that others could benefit from. How can you use your assets to benefit society? What problems can you help solve? If you begin a selfless service to your community, you are sowing back into it. A business could grow out of this. In time, opportunity can be counted on to open up to you.

This inspirational ezine you are now reading is an example of a free service that attracted the attention of opportunity. In a nutshell, some one saw it, and my other work posted online for free, and we’re now partners in an offline magazine project! To think that I’ve always wanted to co-publish an inspirational mag! I started with what I had, and what I needed came looking for me!

The lesson here is: Give first, of what you have; discard the “What’s-In-It-For-Me” attitude. Look for ways to bless others, because everyone has something to give. Then opportunity will come to you; maybe not immediately (I’d been sharing inspiration freely, for quite a while before our magazine project was born), but it will surely come, if you give with a pure heart, to the best of your ability.

If you want to prosper here in Naija, or any where else for that matter, find a need and fill it. Help people solve a problem. Money goes where value is added. The amount of it you get is commensurate with the value you give. I hate to say this, but if you lack, it’s probably because you’re not giving much value to society, in the form of goods or services. If you add value, providing much needed goods or services, society gives back to you in the form of an income. If you are wealthy today, it’s because you are adding value. Incidentally, you get back from the society you bless. Many of us who would add no value here in Nigeria travel abroad and add value there. Then we prosper, and think the magic is in a foreign country. Think of it readers, it’s not the country in which you sow but the value that you add. If you go abroad and add no value, you’ll be just as broke as you were back home. Stop and think of that.

Our theme, “Opportunity” continues this issue. We want you to get it deep into your sub-conscious mind that our country is a land of vast opportunity. If you’ll stay with us at Up-Mobile we’ll show you how to see opportunity where others see problems. This issue’s articles are on spotting and attracting opportunity. As I always admonish, please print this issue out. Read and re-read it, and share it with your friends. We get what we think about most of the time. To prosper, both you and your friends must think “possibility thoughts” most of the time. It’s Up-Mobile’s mission to help you do just that.

Please keep the feedback coming. We love to hear from you. Always remember, YOU are the REASON for this e-zine! You always will be. We love you and our dear country Nigeria. Together let’s build it.

Honoured to be of service,

Oma Edoja,

Motivational Article (1)

Could You Be Colour-blind? By Oma Edoja

Do you consider your vision perfect? You may never have needed an eye specialist in your life, but this is no indication of perfect vision. And if you just happen to also think that opportunity has not been fair to you, you could be suffering from what I refer to as “Opportunity Colour-blindness!

Colour-blindness, as we know it, is the inability to see the difference between some colours, especially red and green. Opportunity Colour-blindness (O.C.B.) however, is the inability to see the difference between opportunity and problems, especially when they’re happening in our own lives.

Self-limiting beliefs (see issues 1 and 2) give rise to O.C.B. We think negative thoughts about ourselves and our abilities, and soon our whole vision is tainted negatively. The resulting low self-esteem prevents us from seeing opportunity when it comes; we either don’t see it at all, or complain about the noise when it knocks!

What is it you desire to do with your life? What goals and dreams have eluded you so far? Have you waited in vain for opportunity, and given up?
I have interesting news for you: Opportunity comes to every man and woman. We just aren’t prepared when it does, and often fail to recognise it. The very wise King Solomon once said that, “Time and chance happen to (every man).” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) and “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Your Creator gives you dreams and desires, and He ensures that you get the time and the chance to pursue and realise them. Your dream has a season, whose time you may not know. The wise thing to do therefore would be to prepare as thoroughly as you could, and be ready and waiting for opportunity when it knocks. Because it surely will.

We have seen in previous issues of this ezine that preparedness attracts opportunity. Similarly, unprepared ness repels it. Rather than grumble and grow bitter over your “lack of opportunity” you need to realise that your problems could be caused by your own Opportunity Colour-blindness, and your failure to prepare for your goals. Remember, you attract what you think about most of the time; you get what you expect; you reap what you sow; what you see is determined by what you believe. In summary, every man paves his own way; it’s all up to you. You will get ample opportunity to realise your dreams. Sometimes opportunity visits over and over. Sometimes it visits just once. But whatever the case, you will get all the “time and chance” that you need.

Are you looking for a job? Do you seek wealth? Would success make you happy? To attain whatever you desire in this life you must realize that your success depends on you, and no one else. When you embrace this empowering belief, opportunity begins to seek you out. But be aware that opportunity often bears a striking resemblance to problems! Be wise and be ready.

Put off the colour-blindness today by receiving a change of heart. Re-read issues 1-3 of this ezine to equip your mind for this task. Our country is full of opportunity, but unfortunately, many suffer from Opportunity Colour-blindness. Thankfully, you now have the chance to exit this group.

10 Tips for Attracting Opportunity Part Two

Commit to Personal Development. Be proactive with your own growth. To have more you must first become more. Your growth is in your own hands. Do something about it today– register for a course, take it and get qualified; learn a profitable skill; ask some one to mentor you. Do whatever you can to ensure your own growth. Become more and attract opportunity.

Network among succeeding and successful people. Of course you know some – old school mates, neighbours, friends, acquaintances. Every one knows someone. The more you network the wider your net of opportunity becomes.

Be a giver. Sow in cash and kind. Our seeds return to us, often in the form of opportunity.

Believe that opportunities exist. We attract what we believe in, positive or negative. If you doubt the existence of opportunity in Nigeria, for you, you will not recognise it when it appears.

Be genuinely and selflessly helpful to others. Habitual givers never lack (but habitual receivers always do!). Brian Tracy says, “Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, “What’s in it for me?” ” Sally Koch says, “Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us everyday.” If you give to others because you will get from them, they will reward you. If you give because you want to help, God owes you, and He’ll repay you in the way that is best for you.

Whatever it is you are looking for, opportunity abounds in our country, Nigeria. If you prepare for opportunity, you will recognise and take hold of it. If you do not prepare, it will pass you by without your even knowing it. This is the case with those who complain about a lack of opportunity. They complain all day and neglect to prepare. The fact that they do not believe in its existence makes opportunity even more elusive to them.

Practise any or all of these ten tips for attracting opportunity. Be wise, be prepared, believe, and attract. It’s all up to you.

Guest Feature: Let It Be You

By Jim Rohn

Each and every day, there are people all around the country and world who are living their dreams. Millionaires are made every day. Families are experiencing tremendous relationships. People are becoming more and more healthy. Life-long learners are growing intellectually and improving their chances for success.

The fact is that living the life of your dreams is possible. People prove that every day. Someone somewhere is going to get rich, get healthy and improve their life. My recommendation is this: Let it be you!

Have you ever wanted to make more money? Have you ever looked at someone who has money and wished that it could be you? People think about getting wealthy all of the time, when only a small percentage actually do. But any of the masses could. Someone is going to start a business. Someone is going to make a great investment. Someone is going to begin the journey to great wealth. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to decide to improve their relationships. Someone is going to enjoy love with their family. Someone is going to schedule some meaningful time with their friends. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to go back to school to improve their life. Someone is going to become a life-long learner. Someone is going to set a goal to read a book or listen to a cd each week for the next year. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to look in the mirror and see that they need to lose a little weight and they will make the decision to become healthy. Someone will run their first marathon. Someone will join an aerobics class and improve their health. Why not let it be you?

I think that by now you get the point: Every day people are improving their lives. Whether you do or not doesn't matter to those who do. They are going to do it, regardless. It is simply a matter of a decision being made. Let that person be you!

You may be asking, "Okay Jim, but how?" Well, let's cover the very simple actions.

The first and most important is to make a commitment to work on yourself. Are you going to improve or stay the same? No matter what you have achieved, you are at a certain point right now. What you have achieved in the past is fine, but it doesn't make a difference for the future. The decision about what you will become is made each day and every day. Each day someone is making the decision to better him or herself. Let that person be you!

The second is to make a plan. Once you have decided to become better you will have to have a plan. It doesn't have to be a long, intricate plan. It can be simple. Save a dollar a day. Walk a mile a day. Read an article a day. That is a simple plan with achievable goals. Someone is going to develop a plan that will take them into the future of their dreams. Let it be you!

The third is to begin to act. All of the great ideas, without action, become stale and useless. The key to turning dreams into reality is action. People who have great ideas are a dime a dozen. People who act on their dreams and ideas are the select few, but they are the ones who gain the health, wealth and wisdom that is available. Someone will act today. Let it be you.

My encouragement to you is to stop looking at others who live the good life, wishing that you were as well, and instead begin to commit to your improvement, develop a plan and act on it. Someone is going to. Let it be you!

Issue 3, 15th April 2005 "Opportunity"

Welcome to this issue of the Up-Mobile Ezine™, designed to bring you “Nigerian Inspiration for the Nigerian Situation!”™

===========================================================

From the Publisher

E ka bo! (Welcome!) Warmest wishes from all of us here at Up-Mobile.
Please pardon us for the delay with this issue. We had technical issues to sort out, and we’re glad to say that they are sorted out, so we shouldn’t encounter them again. Please accept our deepest apologies. We are truly sorry.

Another fortnight has just zoomed by! Did you do something you’ve never done before, as we “admonished” in the last issue’s Quick Tips and Ideas? Then you must have plenty of new results to share with us! I certainly have! I’ve been doing new things and getting exciting results! I’m going to share them with you very soon, in a different forum. Why not send us an email detailing your new approach and new results, and the challenges you faced along the way? Your story could help someone else. And there’s a free gift if we receive your story before the 15th of May 2005. That’s when we’ll publish a selection of your responses. Please see the “What’s New?” section for details. If you did not see the last issue, please visit our archives and click on Issue 2, 1st April 2005.

We extend a hearty welcome to all who joined our community in the last two weeks. You will notice that our sign-up process is double opt-in, that is, it’s in two steps.
• You submit your email address or send us a blank email, with the subject line: Subscribe
• We reply, asking for your name and confirmed email address.
This is for two reasons:
• We want to be sure you are not signed up in error, or against your wish (we do not spam), and
• We need your name, which the first step does not tell us!

Why do we need your name? Because you’re joining our exclusive community (not just signing up for an ezine!) You’re joining our success-oriented family, and family members have names! Please note that completing and submitting the info in step 2 is what makes you a member of our community. If we do not receive this response we cannot sign you up. You will therefore not be able to enjoy our exclusive member bonuses (See the “More Info” section below for details of exclusive member bonuses you certainly don’t want to miss! And they’re all free!) Be sure to respond as soon as we get back to you, to avoid procrastination, and missing out on all the juicy benefits!

Our theme for this issue is “Opportunity.” Ironically, there is so much opportunity in this wonderful country of ours, but it is hidden to the untrained eye and ear. We’ll be sharing information that will help you become better at spotting and seizing these opportunities, and even attracting them to yourself.
We encourage you to print out these issues, re-read them over and over, and share them with your loved ones. And do tell us if you find help in any of our pages. We need your feed back to serve you better. Remember, you are the reason for this ezine. You always will be!

Stay positive, and keep on attracting positive things.

Motivational Article (1), continued from last issue

Part Two: Self-limiting Beliefs – The inner enemies of progress

Recap: Self-limiting beliefs are those things we believe about ourselves that place limitations on our abilities. They act like brakes on our progress, leaving us acting forward but believing backwards. What can we do about them? Where do they come from? What happens if we do nothing about them?
Read on for the answers.

What can I do about them?
Once you have identified them, these self-limiting beliefs must be challenged every time they rear their heads. You must consciously reject any thought or suggestion that you are limited in any way. There is nothing you cannot do. You simply need to find the way and follow it to conclusion. When self-limiting thoughts are starved of attention, they wither and die.
Whatever you give attention to magnifies: whatever you do not attend to shrivels up and dies. Jim Rohn says it aptly: “You cannot take the mild approach to the weeds in your mental garden. You have got to hate weeds enough to kill them. Weeds are not something you handle; weeds are something you devastate.”

Where do they come from? Self-limiting beliefs could come from the things people have said to us and about us while we grew up e.g. “You’ll never make it.” “Foolish girl!” “You’ll never get married.” “You’re a bad boy.”
Now is the time to devastate these weeds. They could also come from listening to negative people, watching/listening to negative TV and radio programs, reading negative books and magazines, and repeatedly hearing negative song lyrics. Always be on the look-out for possible sources, not fearfully, but with the attitude to detect and devastate them.

What happens if we do nothing about them? If we leave these hindering thoughts in our minds, like all weeds, they will gain ground till they choke the vitality out of us. A mind that has been choked by such thoughts cannot think positively anymore. It thinks negatively, and so achieves negative outcomes. Allowing just one limiting thought to stay develops in us the tendency to allow more. We eventually give up the fight, and soon our minds are agog with reasons why we cannot achieve, why others are better than we are and why we do not deserve success. Remember, we get what we think about most of the time. Wouldn’t you therefore rather think positively? Jim Rohn says that weeds are something you devastate. If we do not devastate them, they soon devastate us.

A proactive approach A better way to deal with self-limiting thoughts is to prevent them in the first place. Examining the list of sources above will give you an idea of where their opposites (self-empowering beliefs) can be found – in the opposite directions!
If you spend time with wholesome people and material, this will build healthy, wholesome thought patterns. A mind that is girded with strong, empowering thoughts is in fit enough condition to resist invasion by these malicious, illegal aliens. Invest in inspirational books, seminars, CDs etc. Engage in positive self-talk or affirmations. And just in case these thoughts slip through unnoticed, perform periodic “mind-sanitation exercises” where you do some self-evaluation. Sometimes a seminar attendance or listening to an audio program is what will alert you of this incursion. I wish you all the best as you build a strong and healthy mind.
Go forward and do all the things you thought you could not do, because now you know that you can. Can I hear an “Amen” somebody?!

Quick Tips and Ideas

10 Tips for Attracting Opportunity Part One

• Decide what you want, what you must do to get it, and then map out a plan to
do what you must do. Please read this sentence again, out loud, and think on it.
Most people do not even know what opportunities they seek. They wait for “just anything” to show up, and complain when it isn’t to their liking. Action is the keyword here. Do what you have to do; sow then you will reap. Don’t sow, or don’t sow the right thing, and you’ll not get what you want. When you do what you must do, you attract opportunity, even if you have to wait awhile.

I had a dream of being a published writer, but had no one to publish my work. I began to just write articles and file them away. Soon I got better at writing, and then opportunities began to come. If I had not decided what I wanted, and done what I had to do to become good at writing, I wouldn’t have recognised those opportunities as doors I wanted to enter. I would most likely have been stopped at the door for lack of sufficient preparation!

• Look for people who have attained what you desire. Learn from them. Ask them to mentor you. Read their biographies. Do what they teach you. You
will get better at what you do and so attract opportunity. I have a writing mentor. He was once so impressed with some work of mine that he introduced me to several key people in the media at a time when I was trying to break in. Find mentors. Learn from others. It will open opportunity’s doors to you.

• Always be prepared. Have an up-to-date, purpose crafted CV on hand. Carry neat, up-to-date business cards with a sharp, attention-grabbing message on them. Keep a well organized portfolio of your work. Up-date it regularly. When you are prepared you can recognize opportunities and grab them while they are still hot. Without preparation, opportunity seldom comes by, and if it did, we would not recognize it. Unprepared ness causes us to lose opportunities to those who are ready for them. Be the one who is always ready.

• Learn the body language of success – a firm handshake, square shoulders, standing up-right rather than slouching, looking people in the eye as you greet them. People will perceive you as successful, which opens more doors.

• Dress as you want to be perceived – sharp, orderly, appropriately, decently. This helps to create a favourable impression of you, which also opens the doors of opportunity.

Next issue we see five more ways to attract opportunity. Meanwhile, put these steps to work, and write to us when opportunity moves in to live with you!

A pessimist is someone who complains about the noise when opportunity knocks.”

Editor’s comment: Opportunity could take the shape of a problem. Rather than complain about the noise, search for the hidden opportunity.

Motivational Article (2)

A New Perspective

At first glance, what you see in this country is an endless sea of problems – unreliable utilities, unpaid workers, unemployment rising, ethnic crises; the list could go on. A second, more discerning glance however, could reveal a totally different, even exciting perspective.

A problem is a sign that things are not working. If they do not work, then that calls for a solution. A call for a solution is a business/employment opportunity. So, our “sea of problems” is actually a sea of opportunities.
Zig Ziglar said, “If there were no problems, most of us would be unemployed. Realistically, the more problems we have and the larger they are, the greater our value to our employer.”

Seeing problems this way can help you turn adversity to opportunity. What problems surround you? Are there a large number of people who share this problem? Can you find a solution to this problem? Would people be willing to pay for your solution? How much would they be willing to pay? Could you charge this much for the solution and still make a reasonable profit? You could have the beginnings of a business in your hands! Problems aren’t so bad after all, are they!

Re-examine your problems. The reason they won’t go away might just be they are the opportunities you’ve been praying for! Don’t be like the pessimist who complains when opportunity knocks. Open the door with a smile on your face! If it’s a problem, you’ll disarm it. If it’s opportunity, you’re ready to embrace it!

What’s New?

Henceforth, our issues will centre on a new theme each month. This month’s theme is “Opportunity.” We hope you will realize, after reading April’s issues that opportunities abound in our country. We hope you’ll develop the mind-set that foreigners have when they come here to invest in solving our myriad of “problems.” What we call problems, the shrewd recognise as profit-makers.

In Issue 2 we gave suggestions for doing things differently and getting different results, with the goals you’re pursuing. If you’ve done just that, and got new results, write in and share this with us. If we receive your story before midnight, May 15th 2005, we’ll send you a free e-Book titled “7 Sure-fire Formulas for Making Big Money with E-Books” by Oyeleke Toye. This e-book details a simple strategy for making money on-line. Send in your story and attract this money-making opportunity! Success Resources

Have you been reading lately? Well, if “fat” books scare you, here are some “slim” ones you should definitely read. They’ll inspire you to get up and run when opportunity knocks. And they won’t take you long to finish. Here they are:

1. Start with What You Have by Rev. Sam Adeyemi This book contains motivation to help you get started on your dreams. Have you ever felt that you lacked the resources to launch out? Well, Rev. Adeyemi will show you that you don’t.

2. Ideas Rule the World by Rev. Sam Adeyemi Here, the Rev. shows you that all you need is a God-given idea to turn your life around. Not money, simply an idea from God. Read this book and see how others have profited from their ideas. You can too.

Motivational Article (1)

Self-limiting Beliefs-The Inner Enemies of Progress by Oma Edoja

What are they? Self-limiting beliefs are those things you believe about yourself that place limitations on your abilities. They may be conscious or unconscious. They may be founded or unfounded e.g.:

I am fat and so no one will marry me, or,
I am not lucky; I won’t get the job.

That you are fat may well be true. That no one will marry you as a result definitely isn’t. Some people prefer fat partners, and it’s the person inside that really makes the difference. And luck isn’t the criterion for getting a job. You get jobs based on merit. Limitations are actually a thing of the mind. In reality we have none. You can do anything if you make up your mind to do it. Determination always finds a way around obstacles.

Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can…. or if you think you can’t…you’re right!” It all depends on what you believe about yourself. Our thoughts and beliefs colour our vision and perception of the world. It all begins with our thoughts, since we have to accept a thought for it to become a belief. It’s been said that whatever you believe becomes your reality. You do not believe what you see; rather you see what you already believe. For this reason, two people facing the same situation may interpret it differently, act according to their different beliefs and experience different outcomes.

How do they work? Self-limiting beliefs act like brakes on our progress. They leave us acting forward, but believing backward. They have been described as a malicious thermostat; you can take all the action you want, and in the right direction too. But anytime you make progress, the thermostat pulls you back to conform to your inner negative programming. Attempting to move forward when you have backward programming is like expecting a photocopy to be different from the original!

To get out of the vicious cycle of acting forward but believing backward you’ve got to identify these malicious thermostats, and eliminate them, consciously and continuously. Sometimes it’s a lifelong battle, but one that you can win each time. Fortunately, you can get rid of self-limiting beliefs. But first you have to identify them. They could be lurking in the recesses of our minds without our awareness. Talking with a friend or consulting with a coach could give you more objective feedback as to their existence.

To be continued in next issue: What can you do about Self-limiting beliefs? Where do they come from? What happens if you do nothing about them? A proactive solution. All these coming up next issue.

Quick Tips and Ideas

For the unemployed

1) Rather than stay home waiting for a job, approach a business owner and offer to work for free, for a stipulated period of time. No, I’m not crazy, and yes, I do mean it! Your skills are growing rusty at home, and you are getting older, and less employable. Three things could result: (a) You could gain valuable job experience, something employers want but fresh graduates don’t usually have, (b) You could earn valuable recommendations from your bosses, colleagues and customers, (c) You could get employed by your boss! I have actually heard of a young man who got a job this way.
2) What skills and qualifications do employers want, that you don’t have? Do you have just the basic qualifications? A first degree is considered basic these days. How can you make yourself desirable to prospective employers? How can you stand out in the employment market? Those who get the jobs have something that you don’t have. For as long as you think it’s a godfather, you’re going to remain unemployed! This is because such self-limiting beliefs place responsibility on someone else. When you take responsibility, you can do something about it. Do whatever it takes to stand out strikingly. It could be as simple as improving your spoken English or self-presentation.
3) Be willing to start small – at lower pay or position than you expected, if necessary. As long as there are growth and exposure prospects it’s worth considering. Money isn’t everything when you’re first starting out.
4) Could self-employment be for you, or your group of friends? Consider what the fathers of Yahoo! And Google did.
5) Applying to newspaper advert does work. In my working days I received several invitations to interviews from newspaper ads, with no godfather or mother! Ditch the self-limiting belief that it doesn’t work. It could be that you need polishing up in your CV-writing or interview skills. See our Success Resources for help with this.
That’s it! Do something you’ve never done, to get something you’ve never had, in the coming week. Use an entirely new approach to look for work and reap entirely different results!

Best wishes, Oma.

Motivational Article (2)

Bud or Blossom?

“And the day came when the risk to remain closed in a bud became more painful than the risk to blossom.” -Anais Nin

What are your dreams? Are they hiding with you in your comfort zone? Will they ever see the light of day? Will they follow you, uncelebrated, to the grave?

Unfortunately, this is the plight of most people and the dreams that God has given them. They get so busy with the mundane and mediocre that their dreams fade into oblivion. The years pass, responsibilities pile up, the grave beckons, and another one bights the dust. May this not be your biography. But shouting, “Amen” will not do the trick. You’ve got to come out of the crevices where you’ve been hiding and work on those dreams.
You have them, we all do. And you can turn them into reality. As long as you can dream it, you can have it. God does not waste dreams, and He gives them out selectively. You and your dreams were hand picked and matched by God. They are no coincidence.

The choice however, is yours; remain in the anonymous protection of a bud, a dream that never came to light, or take the risk of blossoming. I chose the risk, frightening as it was. Danger loomed and failure threatened, but that’s all they could do. You get stronger in the wind and the sunlight, but that’s something you’ll never know if you stay inside your bud. Think of that.

Motivational Article (1) :

Creating Your World by Oma Edoja

“You’re not the product of a broken home, a devastated economy, a world in the upheaval of war, a minority group, a family of drunkards or a poverty-ridden neighbourhood. You are the product of your own thinking processes and whatever you’re thinking about today is the cornerstone of your tomorrow.”

-Thomas Sikking

Your mind and your mouth are two powerful tools of self-creation.

With them you can consciously create whatever circumstances you want, or unconsciously what you do not want.

Whether you are aware of it or not, your mind and mouth are creating the situations you experience right now.

It’s been said that the power of life and death are in the tongue, we shall have whatsoever we say, and to him who believes, all things are possible.

If you have been experiencing lack, failure and defeat, it is most likely that this is what you think and talk about. This is what your friends think and talk about. This is what you read about and listen to on the news.

By surrounding yourself with reminders of lack, failure and defeat you are programming your mind to think this way, and your mouth to affirm it into reality.

“As he thinketh…so he is.” (Proverbs)

Fellow Nigerians, to get different results we must do different things.

We’ve got to separate ourselves from those who insist on thinking and seeing lack, failure and defeat. There is abundance in this country, and you have a right to it!

Our environment does not shape us; our thoughts do.

Many have worked their way out of poverty in this country.

You have talents and skills that can pave your way to success. Believe in yourself, your talents, and the God who gave them to you, to profit thereby.

Think of Nigerians like Oluchi, Daddy Showkey, Patience Ozokwor and Nwankwor Kanu whose talents and skills have taken them to their dreams.

Some once lived in abject poverty, but began the rise to fame and fortune in this same country of ours.

They had dreams and they pursued them. If they can do it, so can you, right here in Nigeria.

It is not your environment that shapes your destiny, it is your thoughts and the words they engender. Many others grew up alongside those named here, under the same circumstances, but achieving different results.

It is not luck that makes the difference, but our thoughts and personal belief systems.

We are the creators of our circumstances, whether good or bad.

Start believing today that there is a way out of your situation, because there is.

When you believe it, you will see it. But not until then.

In the next issue of this Ezine, we will look at how your thoughts can help or hinder your progress. Till then, remember the words of Thomas Sikking:

“You are the product of your own thinking… and whatever you’re thinking about today is the cornerstone of your tomorrow.”

Motivational Article (2) :

Reading – 10 Ways to Find the Time by Oma Edoja

Why Read?

It’s been said that there are three kinds of knowledge:

  • What you know
  • What you know that you don’t know, and
  • What you don’t know that you don’t know.

What you know is an asset.

What you know that you don’t know isn’t too difficult to handle.

You can go out and find out!

But what you don’t know that you don’t know could be dangerous -- to your life/health/career/business etc. It’s information that you don’t know exists.

It could cost you your job, promotion, business, or something worse.

What you don’t know can, and often does, harm you.

In fact, unknown to you it could be holding you back this very minute.

However, if you develop the habit of reading for self improvement, you set yourself up to be “found” by such knowledge. It comes to you each time you open a book, even though you never knew it was there.

Imagine this: you’re walking along innocently, in the line of fire of some great information, and all of a sudden you are “hit” by a new discovery!

If you will just stay in the line of fire (by reading, reading and reading some more), you will keep on getting “hit”.

And there’s something about this habit that causes you to attract just the information you need!

I am an avid, voracious reader. I read anything that’s written in English, whether online or offline! A while ago, I needed some info about marketing one’s services.

I set a weekly goal to read up on the subject, though I had no idea where I would find the material, or the time to read it either!

Lo and behold! Being a habitual reader, all week long I was “found out and followed” by books, articles, pop-up boxes and spam mail on marketing your services. Every where I turned, it was there!

If you develop the habit of reading, you will never be at a loss for information.

You will either know what you need to know, know where to find it, know some one who knows it, or it will come looking for you!

Over time you will become a resource person and a magnet for information.

Now how beneficial could that be to your career or business?

I once worked with colleagues who came to me when they were looking for information. If a problem defied solution they made sure to ask me. I didn’t always have the answers, but if I didn’t, I knew where to find them!

My boss wrote in my appraisal that I was “an asset to this establishment.”

To get ahead in today’s world you must develop a reading habit; stay in the line of fire of good, wholesome information, and get “hit” each time there’s an update!

Is time a problem for you? Here are

10 tips for finding the time to read:

  1. Take a book with you wherever you go, make use of time in the traffic, waiting in receptions, even time in the loo!
  2. Cut back on TV viewing. What does it profit a man (or woman) to watch TV all day and suffer from a dearth of information?
  3. To find time for new things you must throw out some old ones. What pastimes are no longer profitable? Or less profitable than reading? Ditch them!
  4. Make friends with people who read. Their good reading habits will rub off on you.
  5. Join a reading group. You’ll be kept busy with reading assignments, and will somehow have to make the time. No reading groups near you? Create one!
  6. Delegate as much work as you possibly can, whether it’s office work or house work. Use the free time to “get in the line of fire” of some good information!
  7. Set goals for self-improvement. Make reading part of your strategy. Then you will read to reach your goals.
  8. Set up a corner of your home to be the perfect reading corner – rocking chair/reading desk and chair, good lighting, peaceful and quiet, soft colours, gentle on the eyes, out-of-bounds to kids – you know what I mean! Just looking at the place will draw you to sit there and read!
  9. Block out 30 minutes to one hour of your day (or whatever suits you) for reading. Tell everyone you cannot be disturbed. Switch off all phones. Go where no one can find you. Do whatever it takes to have that time uninterrupted and just read.
  10. Get organized; be a better time manager. It’s amazing how much time we throw away chatting on the phone, hanging out with friends, lingering after a meeting or waiting around for one thing or the other. You could kill two birds with one stone by reading while you’re at the hairdresser’s or the mechanic’s. Examine the way you spend your time. You’ll find plenty of it not properly utilized.

I hope you are inspired to begin reading, whether for pleasure or self-improvement.

There is no such thing as spare time. If you need time you’ve got to create it. And now you have no excuse! So go on out and get some books, and get “hit” with some new information!
